Battlefield 4 to include a practice mode called Test Range
In an interview with EA TV, conducted during yesterday’s Battlefield 4 Gamescom live stream, DICE’s Creative Director Lars Gustavsson talked about a dedicated game mode that will let Battlefield 4 players perfect their combat performance away from the unforgiving realm of competitive multiplayer.
Referred to as Test Range, this feature will give you the opportunity to try-out weapons and vehicles without needing to rent a private server, or worry about others capitalising on your distraction for easy XP. As Gustavsson put it, “with the new Test Range we’re putting in there, you […] get to learn to master a helicopter or plane, or try out the tanks. I think that will also let people get acquainted before they go out and try to master opponents on the battlefield.”
The details Gustavsson provided were a bit vague, but our guess is you’ll be able to faff around with guns or vehicles – land, air or sea – on a map of your choosing. DICE may even design a map specifically for practice purposes. Either way, we think Test Range is a terrific idea that FPS fans of all skill levels will welcome.
We’ve embedded the 24-minute interview below, which also covers Battlelog, Frostbite 3, Commander Mode, Spectator Mode, server setups and much more besides. Check it out, and let us know what you think in the comments field.
