Badland Hunters

Badland Hunters ~ 2024 Korean Movie Only on Netflix

“Badland Hunters” is a Korean Movie released in 2024 and it is “Only on Netflix”. It is categorized as an Apocalyptic Action film.

♦ A New Human Race is the Future of Mankind

In “Badland Hunters”, humans are living in Seoul after an apocalypse. It’s a wasteland or rather a “badland” (wasteland). Some guys are “hunters” that go out hunting for food. They bring food back and share it with everyone in their settlement. Nam-San is a badland hunter.

Having something to eat is good and needful. But having water to drink is much more needful. The people are living through the worse disaster ever! A disaster that resulted in NO CLEAN DRINKING WATER. Water is the elixir of life for every human. Not having drinking water is a nightmare.

There is one thing on earth that has not changed. They are still criminals who try to bully people with violence and take advantage of them. But at least you know they are criminals as soon as you look at them. If you want to get rid of them, you just have to prove that you’re stronger. When they lose the fight, they go away whimpering, with their tails between their legs.

However, after fighting off the bad guys and making them leave, the real criminals show up disguised as saviors. They look like honest decent people. A woman arrives at the settlement with a few of her people, promising “the good life”. She says the people can live in nice apartments and there is plenty of CLEAN DRINKING WATER. But there’s a catch! They only want young people. The parents or caretakers will be allowed to accompany them. Some agree to go with the woman. Han Su-Na is numbered among the young people.

When the people get to the apartments, the first thing the woman does is separate the parents from their children. The children are given clean water to drink. At least, it looks like clean water. That’s when the real nightmare begins. The parents were deceived. Their young children are needed for an experiment. Scientist Yang Gi-Su is researching how to create a new human race.

Where to Watch

Viewership and Rating:

  • IMDb: 6.0 out of 10 stars
  • My Drama List: 7.7 out of 10 stars
  • Common Sense Media: 3 out of 5 stars
  • NME: 3 out of 5 stars

My personal rating is the same as IMDb. (That’s a first! I hardly ever agree with IMDb ratings for K-dramas.) Also, I don’t usually give a “Thumbs Down” when I click the rating on Netflix. But this time I did. No doubt, fans of The Roundup’s Ma Dong-Seok wanted to watch this film just because he was the star. But he couldn’t save this movie.

The movie was disappointing. It doesn’t seem like the scriptwriters put much effort into the lines and instead relied on the action. There was lots of fighting and a crazy mad scientist. Yeah, the scientist was nuts but he only did those terrible things to other young people because he loved his daughter, who was clearly already dead! (O.o)

I'm fan of post-apocalyptic action flicks, I was really looking forward to this one. Sure, it had its flaws, but let's be real, Ma Dong-Seok always brings a certain charm to the screen. The action sequences were thrilling, and while the plot may have been a bit thin, it's the adrenaline-pumping fights that kept me hooked till the end. Sometimes, you just need a movie that's all about the action, and "Badland Hunters" delivers on that front.

Well, I hate to rain on the parade, but "Badland Hunters" didn't quite hit the mark for me. I mean, sure, Ma Dong-Seok is a powerhouse, and the premise had potential, but the execution fell flat. The storyline felt disjointed, and the dialogue was downright cringeworthy at times. And don't even get me started on that mad scientist trope – it felt like a lazy attempt to inject some drama into an already shaky narrative. Overall, I was left feeling underwhelmed and wishing for more substance.

"Badland Hunters" certainly had its moments, but it left me pondering more than cheering. The exploration of societal collapse and the lengths people will go to survive was intriguing, albeit a bit heavy-handed at times. While the action was entertaining, I couldn't shake the feeling that the film missed an opportunity to delve deeper into its themes. Still, it's worth a watch for those interested in a dystopian tale with a twist.

"Badland Hunters" was exactly what I expected – a wild ride from start to finish! I mean, who needs a complex plot when you've got Ma Dong-Seok kicking butt and taking names? The action was non-stop, the fight scenes were intense, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Sure, it may not win any awards for storytelling, but sometimes you just want to sit back, grab some popcorn, and watch the punches fly!

While "Badland Hunters" had its share of flaws, I can't deny that it offered some entertainment value. Ma Dong-Seok's presence added a certain gravitas to the proceedings, and there were moments of genuine tension throughout. However, the predictable plot twists and lackluster character development left much to be desired. It's a shame, really, as with a bit more polish, this could have been a standout entry in the genre.

I approached "Badland Hunters" with cautious optimism, but unfortunately, it failed to live up to my expectations. The premise had potential, but the execution felt lackluster and uninspired. The characters lacked depth, and the storyline meandered without any real sense of purpose. Even Ma Dong-Seok's undeniable charisma couldn't save this one from feeling like a missed opportunity. Overall, it's a forgettable addition to the post-apocalyptic genre.

"Badland Hunters" was... fine, I guess? I mean, it had its moments, but nothing about it really stood out to me. The action was decent, the performances were solid enough, but it just didn't leave much of an impression. Maybe I'm just not the target audience for this kind of movie, but it felt like a forgettable way to spend a couple of hours.
