Ubisoft has officially unveiled the next major installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise with Asassin’s Creed syndicate. The next edition of the franchise is due out on October 23 and will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. The new time period, as has been rumored for many months, is set during Victorian London during the height of the Industrial Revolution.
As reported earlier, players will take the role of Assassin twin siblings Jacob and Evie Frye. Jacob is a hot-headed and rebellious leader of an underground gang, while Eve is a master of stealth and control. The two team-up to challenge rivals, plutocrats and enemy Templars alike in order to free the masses from poverty and corruption.
Ubisoft is boasting that the upcoming game will feature the largest, most modern open-world city in the franchise. The fighting will feature combat against rival gangs in order for players to grow their sphere of influence in London. New weapons will be at their disposal, including brass knuckles, a kukri knife, a revolver and the Assassin’s gauntlet. The game will also have a new navigation feature to transport players around London with a rope launcher for scaling Victorian buildings and zip-lining from rooftop-to-rooftop. This can be used to perform aerial assassinations or escaping from daring raids.
Speaking on the new game, Ubisoft Creative Director Marc-Alexis Cote stated: “The ability to lead an underground gang, commandeer any vehicle on hand and use modern tools to take on an expansive and fast-paced Victorian London sets this game apart. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has been in development for more than two years and this new modern take on the living open world will please Assassin’s Creed fans and newcomers alike.”
One note that might give readers pause is that Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is being developed in association with nine other studios. It makes one wonder if Ubisoft has learned from the mistakes of Assassin’s Creed Unity, which suffered from many issues at launch. Other associate studios on the game include Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft Singapore, Ubisoft Annecy, Ubisoft Montpellier, Reflections, a Ubisoft studio, Ubisoft Sofia, Ubisoft Shanghai, Ubisoft Kiev and Ubisoft Bucharest.
