All The Big Fat Announcements From Today’s Nintendo Direct
Today’s Nintendo Direct was HUGE — the Kirby image above is very apt, and will be explained in a little bit. There’s a lot to cover so let’s skip the introduction and get to it:
Triangle Strategy Prologue Demo — today
As with the other, similar-looking game from Square, your progress will transfer over to the full game when it is released. You can play up to the end of Chapter 3.
EarthBound and EarthBound Beginnings on NSO — today
“Here, HERE’S your EarthBound, are you happy now?” “But where’s Mother 3?”
Metroid Dread Free Update – – today
“Dread Mode” in which you die in one hit, and “Rookie Mode” in which you die in 1,000,000,000,000 hits, are now options in the game. A Boss Rush mode will also be added in April.
GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon — today
Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece For Cloud — tomorrow
Only Cloud can play it? That spiky-haired brat gets everything!
Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection — February 17
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pack — Starts March 18
We’re probably not getting another Mario Kart until the Switch 2, and who knows when that is, so…might as well extend the life of this one with a few reruns. 48 extra tracks, recycled from throughout Mario Kart history, can be yours for an additional $24.99. They’ll be dripped out throughout 2022. If you have the NSO Expansion Pass, the price is covered.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land — March 25
This is, so far, the most anticipated Switch game of the year (assuming Zelda and Bayonetta get delayed). And the scenes we got were amazing: Kirby swallowing a car to drive himself places! Kirby eating a traffic cone to bash in pipes! The end of March can’t get here soon enough.
MLB The Show 22 — April 5
Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition — April 7
More about this in the next newspost.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp — April 8
Originally meant for December, but delayed.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed — April 20
Zombie Army 4: Dead War — April 26
Nintendo Switch Sports — April 29
This is the revived version of Wii Sports, and if you think you’d rather never play another motion control game in your life….we’re nearing the twenty-year mark when this sort of thing will be considered nostalgic and valuable again, so…this could sell. Contains a wider variety of sports, with more to be added via free updates.
Two Point Campus — May 17
Mario Strikers Battle League — June 10
Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles — June 10
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes — June 24
Yet another Warriors game, this time based around Fire Emblem Three Houses.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course — June 30
LEGO Brawls — June
Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series — July 8
Remake of both Klonoa games.
Live A Live — July 22
Whoa! This is one of those Square 16-bit classics the Western Hemisphere never got to enjoy. Until now you could only play it as a patched translated ROM, if you could find that.
Splatoon 3 — Summer 2022
Disney Speedstorm — Summer 2022
No Man’s Sky — Summer 2022
Front Mission — Summer 2022
Advance Wars isn’t the only classic strategy game getting a remake. A redo of Front Mission 2 is also in the works.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 — September
Isn’t it nice that you didn’t know XC3 was coming until just a few short months from its release? Now the wait will be super-short. Other games could learn from that.
Portal Companion Collection — 2022
Both Portals in one cube.
Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival — 2022
Comes with a subscription service that adds over 500 songs, if you want it.
SD Gundam Battle Alliance — 2022
