Afro Samurai 2 Due Out This Month
Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume 1 will be available from September 22 on PlayStation 4, according to a new blog post on the PlayStation website. This makes the game a timed exclusive for the Sony console as it will not release on Xbox One or PC until later in the year.
Sony is also offering a special discount to mark the occasion, giving players the opportunity to purchase all three volumes of the sequel at 20% off the normal price, while PlayStation Plus members can also get an extra 10% off this price. This discounted trilogy bundle will only be available on PlayStation 4, meaning players on other platforms will have to pay the standard price for each volume as they release.
The sequel will continue the story directly from its predecessor and includes a major role for Kuma, a giant mechanical killing machine that has a bear’s head. The development is being handled by indie studio Redacted and they have also put a bigger emphasis on exploration this time around.
The original Afro Samurai game released in 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game combined the brawler genre with hack and slash gameplay to create a title that received mixed reviews from critics, though it did perform well financially, selling almost half a million copies in the first year of release. The plot was loosely based on the manga and anime of the same name and saw players protagonist as he attempts to hunt down a character named Justice who had killed his father when he was a child.
