A first look at Street Fighter 6’s first non Capcom guest character, Terry Bogard

Terry Bogard is asking you if you are okay?

Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 has sent shockwaves through the fighting game community with its Year 2 DLC announcements. The roster expansion includes the unexpected addition of Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui, iconic characters from SNK’s Fatal Fury series.

This unprecedented move marks the first time a mainline Street Fighter game has incorporated characters from outside the Capcom universe. While previous titles like Final Fight and Rival Schools are considered part of the broader Street Fighter world, Terry and Mai, including Mai as the girlfriend of Terry’s brother Andy, are entirely from a separate gaming realm.

Terry, the quintessential “hungry wolf,” has clashed with Street Fighter characters before, but primarily in crossover titles like Capcom vs. SNK. His appearance in Street Fighter 6 is a bold statement that pushes the boundaries of traditional fighting game collaborations.

The inclusion of Terry and Mai raises intriguing questions about the future of the Street Fighter franchise. It opens doors for potential partnerships with other fighting game companies, expanding the character pool for future installments. However, it also prompts discussions about the core identity of Street Fighter. Only time will tell how this daring move will shape the series moving forward.

Street Fighter 6 – Terry Bogard Teaser Trailer

The stage showcased in the Terry Bogard reveal trailer is none other than the iconic Pao Pao Cafe, a beloved location from numerous SNK titles. Known for its two branches, one owned by Richard Meyer and the other by Bob Wilson, the Pao Pao Cafe has been a staple in the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters series. Its appearance in Street Fighter 6 raises intriguing possibilities of cameos from other Fatal Fury characters, especially if players choose Terry as a mentor in World Tour mode.

The trailer also featured a surprising opponent for Terry: Lao, a relatively obscure Fatal Fury character. Considering the inclusion of lesser-known characters from Final Fight and Street Fighter in World Tour, it’s plausible that we might encounter more familiar faces from the SNK universe.

Interestingly, SNK has recently unveiled a new Fatal Fury game titled “Fatal Fury: City of Wolves.” This installment features an older, wiser Terry Bogard who has adopted Rock Howard, the son of his arch-nemesis, Geese Howard. The game also brings back fan-favorite Kevin Rien, cousin of his longtime girlfriend, Blue Mary. It’s fascinating to see two distinct portrayals of Terry: the classic, fiery fighter in Street Fighter 6 and the mature, seasoned veteran in Fatal Fury: City of Wolves. This raises the question of whether we could potentially see a Street Fighter character making a guest appearance in the new Fatal Fury game.
