2022 in fiction

2022 is still a young year but the first month is about to end. When I was a little kid I had seen old science fiction movies have hype for the year 2000. It is either a futuristic Utopia or a nightmarish Dystopia. 10 years ago people thought the world will end but it didn’t. Remember everyone’s high expectations for 2015 because of Back to the Future part II. What do people from the past thought our current year to be like?

How old movies thought what 2022 will be like?

This 1973 film is set in a “future” which is now our present where humanity suffers from a food shortage. It because of over population and climate change. People are rationed with Green looking crackers called soylent green.  People are finally eased by the food shortage not knowing the food they eat is made of people.

The Purge

The Purge is a movie franchise that released its first film in 2017. It is about a sick version of 2022 where a 3rd Political country defeated Republicans and democrats.  This new party made a law that helps to control the crime rate and population of America. The Purge is an annual event where Murder becomes legal within 24 hours.

Skyhammer

This Atari Jaguar Game  from 2000 is set in the year we are currently in but with fully functioning space colonies. The plot doesn’t make sense but people are under the control of AI and companies that in war against each other.  Opposing sides fight each other using aircrafts called Warhammer because of reasons I cant explain as this game have bad writing.

Aruvu Rezuru: Kikaijikake no Yōseitachi

This 2011 Light Novel made people from 11 years ago believe that 2022 is so advanced that we are in the height of Nanotechnology. People can travel their consciousness to cyberspace while their bodies are submerged in water tanks. Very Matrix!

  1. Soylent Green will become a reality if people do not care for the environment. If people believe false information, the purge will become a reality.

  2. 2 years ago is 2020, that year is the setting of The Pacific Rim. We still don’t have Jaegers walking around the streets.
