Your First Taste Of Liam Hemsworth As The Witcher

It’s been over two years since Netflix last tossed us a season of The Witcher, and it didn’t leave things on a confident note. The show had once been one of the brightest shining stars in the streamer’s lineup, but then multiple things happened: fans found the new season lackluster on several levels, the animated spinoffs didn’t gain traction, and most damaging of all, Henry Cavill left the show.

The announcement came before the release of Season 3, and Netflix had to run a campaign that said “Yes, Cavill is still the lead” to avoid any dips in ratings (didn’t help). How can you have The Witcher without The Witcher? All depends upon whether replacement Liam Hemsworth can sell the same swagger.

With only a month and a half to go before the show returns, the answer couldn’t be held off any longer. Today Netflix released the first public clip of Hemswitcher in action. It’s about a minute of him fighting a wraith. At first he tries swinging his sword, only to realize that’s not effective against a ghost (it perhaps took him a bit too long to realize this). Luckily Hemswitcher DOES know the proper way to dispatch of a wraith and I definitely did not see it coming. It’s very Mortal Kombat.

As for what else could happen, I got bad news: it’s a lot of solo arcs. “After the Continent-altering events of Season Three, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies. As their paths diverge, and their goals sharpen, they stumble on unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good…” Though Season 3 was carved in half, Netflix will not be doing the same this time, delivering all eight episodes in one dump.

Even if Season 4 improves over Season 3, rhey’ve already committed to ending this show after Season 5, so…if you like it, try not to like it too much. The Witcher returns October 30.

I cannot believe Netflix actually replaced Henry Cavill. He was The Witcher. Watching that wraith clip with Hemsworth made me feel like they do not understand the character at all. Cavill had the experience, the presence, and the voice that made Geralt feel real. Hemsworth looks like he is just acting out a fight scene without any depth. I do not even feel excited for this season; it feels like the soul of the show is gone. Bingeing eight episodes? No thanks. I am not sure I will even finish it.

Seeing Hemsworth instead of Cavill made me feel disappointed and betrayed. Cavill’s Geralt had style, intelligence, and weight. The wraith clip made Hemsworth look inexperienced, and I cannot imagine him carrying the series for two seasons. Netflix made a terrible decision, and I do not feel excited for this season at all.

I like the idea of dumping all eight episodes at once. I prefer binge-watching, and it allows me to see the story unfold without long waits. The wraith fight in the first clip looked good visually, though the pacing seemed slightly off. Hemsworth seems capable enough, and I think his version of Geralt could work if the writing supports him. I am curious about the solo arcs because it could let each character shine individually. Yennefer’s story in particular has a lot of potential, and I hope they explore her magic and struggles fully. Overall, I am hopeful for this season.

I feel the first clip did not impress me much. Hemsworth’s Geralt seems stiff in comparison to Cavill. The fight choreography is okay, but the moment where he takes too long to realize the sword does not work against the wraith bothered me. That should have been more natural for someone who has fought monsters for years. I will still watch the season because I like the world and the other characters, but I am not convinced the show will regain its former energy. The solo arcs could help, but it depends on execution.

I enjoy that the new season will explore solo arcs. I think seeing Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri apart will give more room to develop their personalities. In the past seasons, some characters felt overshadowed. Hemsworth looks different from Cavill, but I think it could be refreshing if he brings his own interpretation. The wraith fight reminded me of why I enjoy this show: the combination of fantasy and strategy. I am hopeful that Season 4 can improve on what Season 3 lacked, and I am planning to watch it immediately when it comes out.

I do not like how Netflix announced that Cavill was leaving before the last season even aired. It made me feel unsure about investing in Season 3. Hemsworth could surprise me, but I will admit I am skeptical. The wraith clip looks okay, but I felt a little disappointment watching it. I hope the solo arcs are compelling enough to keep my interest. I am not expecting the same magic as the earlier seasons, but if they tell the story well, I might still enjoy it.

I am very interested in seeing new allies in the story. The description of found families could create strong emotional moments. Hemsworth’s fight scene looked more like Mortal Kombat than previous seasons, which is not a bad thing if done well. I am curious how the show balances action and story with the characters separated. I feel like this season could surprise viewers, even if it takes time to adjust to the new Geralt. I plan to watch it with attention to character development more than just the fights.

I have mixed feelings about the upcoming season. On one hand, I want the show to succeed because I enjoy the world of The Witcher. On the other hand, losing Cavill is a big change, and Hemsworth has a lot to live up to. The first clip gives some hope; the wraith fight shows he can handle action scenes, though he is not as smooth as Cavill. I am also excited for the solo arcs because I like seeing different sides of the characters. I will watch the season carefully and hope Netflix ends the series on a strong note by Season 5.

I watched the clip and honestly, it gave me hope. Hemsworth seems to have a good handle on Geralt’s fighting style, and the wraith scene shows some creativity. Even if he isn’t Cavill, I think the show can work if the writing is solid. I also like the idea of solo arcs because it allows each character to grow independently. Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer facing their own challenges could make the eventual reunion feel earned. I will probably binge all eight episodes immediately, even if it is not the same as before.
