Next to Capcom’s Street Fighter, SNK is one of the pioneers of the genre, especially during the 90s. SNK is not as mainstream as it use to be in the 90s. But in Latin American markets, they are still King of fighters. (Pun intended) I am a fan of some of their works. They created Fatal Fury,King of fighters, Metal slug and Samurai shodown. When Playmore purchased SNK, the company experienced a decline. SNK Playmore stopped making games and use the images of SNK characters to make Pachinko machines. Thankfully, SNK escaped that limbo and they revived the King of Fighters Franchise. Last year they made a revival for their IP Samurai Shodown and the game is still getting some DLC.
Saudi crowned Prince, Mohammed bin Salman or MBS for short, is reported to be interested on buying SNK. SNK games are far from conservative because they made fan service characters. Mai Shiranui is a great example. She is a scantily clad Ninja with double Ds.
Their games Samurai Shodown and Metal Slug have gore comparable to Mortal Kombat. I do have worried of censorship if MBS owns SNK but he is more progressive. Two years ago he allowed women to drive. Now Hijab is not compulsory anymore. This Saudi Vlogger walks around Saudi Arabia without Abaya and hijab.
Two years ago King of Fighters debuted a Saudi female character named Nadj.
She fights while wearing an Abaya and her hijab gets when she moves around in the middle of the fight. Her creation might be a clue that MBS had been in talks with working for SNK. Videogames is a billion dollar industry.33.3% is the rumored stocks of SNK that is purchased by the Prince. SNK have established IPs so it can kickstart a gaming industry in Saudi easier.
