There’s a pessimistic take flying around social media that “there will never be another cult TV series,” meaning the new habit of streamers deleting shows that underperformed means it will be impossible to create a show that gains its audience over time, rather than right out of the gate. Well, folks, here’s a present-day example of a show clawing itself back from the cliff due to sheer fan will. It may be harder, but it’s not impossible.
Simon Barry, the showrunner for Netflix’s Warrior Nun, dramatically announced last June that the show had been saved, though he provided no details as to how, or who did the saving. All he could confirm was that it wasn’t Netflix. Today executive producer Dean English piped up to offer a bit more information.
It was unknown up to this point if Warrior Nun would continue as a series, or as a movie. English revealed it will be multiple movies. “I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three.” You heard the man. Three!
Are these three meant to wrap up the story? Maybe, maybe not. English is optimistic there could be more after this, mentioning “a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know.” The bigger question is who’s footing the bill for all that. Who is this mystery entity that rescued the Order of the Cruciform Sword from the brink?
We just don’t know yet. More info to come at a future time.
