You won’t want to miss your latest chance to play one of the greatest games the Enix side of Square Enix created before the merger. Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, the first game in the series that most recently got a PS5 installment, has been released digitally on PS4 and PS5.
The game made its debut on the original Playstation in 2000. It’s a very unique JRPG where you’re a Norse goddess who must prepare for Ragnarok by meeting mortal warriors, learning their life stories, and then recruiting their spirits as “Einherjar” — your army, in other words. Your success or failure at the end of the game depends on how well you trained the people you picked, and your strategy in deploying them.
Until today, it wasn’t easy to play Lenneth — the original Playstation version had a low print run and now sells for $300 on average. The game was re-released for PSP, but that was also a while ago. If you’ve never played a Valkyrie Profile game before, trust me — you want to start with the original game, as it’s the whole reason this series has a fanbase in the first place.
This version of Lenneth is the PSP version, which is just a widescreen version of the Playstation original (graphics are the same). This version, however, will include enhancements like a rewind function, a quick save and load, and other features that let you cheat if you suck at the game. Check it out now on PS4 and PS5 — and if you purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition of Valkyrie Elysium, you already have it as one of the bonus items.
