Transformers: Megatron Returns in The Last Knight

It looks like a classic villain will be returning for the fifth Transformers film, Transformers: The Last Knight. The official Twitter account for the movie franchise posted a new teaser for the film, which you can check out below. Production is slated to begin for the film in June.

The image in the teaser features of the face of the Decepticon leader known as Megatron. However, to add to that, Michael Bay shared another post on his Instagram account. There he wrote, “It’s starting. This week production. Megatron is back. transformers# decepticons#.”

What’s interesting about this is that Megatron was not in Transformers: Age of Extinction. The villain was Galvatron. Similar to the animated franchise, Megatron’s remains were remade into Galvatron. Either way, he was Megatron no more. So what brings about this change back to Megatron after he was already formally transformred into Galvatron? At times, Michael Bay seems to lack a long-term plan and attention span with the franchise. The Twins were heavily featured in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, but they were maligned characters, and they were mostly Bay’s idea. The characters were summarily removed in the third film.
Transformers: The Last Knight is scheduled for a June 23, 2017 release.
