Transformers have existed for forty years now, and video games based on the toys and surrounding mythology have been around for just as long. Outright Games and Hasbro have just announced the next chapter in the tradition: Transformers Galactic Trials.
Transformer games have covered many genres, but Galactic Trials is a mashup of several: mainly a racing game, it also takes in elements of the adventure and roguelite genres. When the evil Nemesis Prime steals the Prime Relics, the situation requires the Autobots and Decepticons to team up, and you’ll be able to play as characters from both sides in a fast-paced race to get the relics back.
Your goals in each circuit are two-fold: one, finish first, and two, take down your opponents along the way. The relics you recover will allow you to upgrade your character and take on greater challenges. Two game modes are available: the main mode, Galactic Trials, is single-player, while Arcade mode supports multiplayer (it’s only local, not online) on tracks you can customize.
“It has been a pleasure to continue our collaboration with Hasbro and return to the world of Transformers,” said Stephanie Malham, Managing Director of Outright Games. “With 2024 marking the 40th anniversary of this iconic IP, we are very excited to be releasing the first ever console racing video game in the franchise’s history. With the inclusion of rogue-lite elements, Transformers: Galactic Trials’s gameplay complements the dynamic Transformers robots.”
