Overlord continues! After four seasons the successful isekai moves to theaters with its first full feature, Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom. Crunchyroll confirmed today it will be released to theaters in the US in both sub and dub form.
Overlord follows Momonga, a gamer who has the typical isekai situation happen to him — he finds himself in the game and has to survive in an unfamiliar world. Momonga is now the Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown, and must defend the citizens of this new world against the constant threats of the Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth and his large army of demi-humans. Here’s what’s happening now:
Once prosperous but now on the brink of ruin, The Sacred Kingdom enjoyed years of peace after construction of an enormous wall protecting them from neighboring invasions. But, one day this comes to an end when the Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth arrives with an army of villainous demi-humans. Fearing invasion of their own lands, the neighboring territory of the Slane Theocracy is forced to beg their enemies at the Sorcerer Kingdom for help. Heeding the call, Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown, rallies the Sorcerer Kingdom and its undead army to join the fight alongside the Sacred Kingdom and the Slane Theocracy in hopes to defeat the Demon Emperor.
Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will be distributed through Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment in select theaters starting November 8. Check this link to see where it will be playing near you. Just so you know, the two previous “films,” Overlord: The Undead King and Overlord: The Dark Hero, aren’t being counted here as they’re actually omnibus films that serve as recaps for Season One. This one’s completely original!
