This June: Marvel’s Loki In His Very Own Show
The original plan on Disney+ was to run Falcon and the Winter Soldier as the first Marvel limited series, with Wandavision following it. Instead, delays occurred and Wanda was ready earlier, so it wound up going first. It appears to have been a wise decision in hindsight. Wandavision was a big hit, Falcon less so. It’s possible America might have felt differently if a grounded military story came BEFORE a fantastical, out-there narrative of witches and sitcom parodies, but…now that we’ve tasted steak, we can’t go back to Cheetos for dinner.
Fortunately for both Disney and us, the zaniness will return with Marvel’s very next series. Thor’s scoundrel brother is getting his own show and from the looks of the trailer released today, it’s going to be great. The story for this one stems directly from a plothole in Avengers Endgame: Loki grabbed the Tesseract and split, teleporting to who knows where…and wasn’t seen for the rest of the film. In his show, we’ll find out just what he’s been doing this whole time.
Seems when Loki performed his little act of thievery, he tore a hole in spacetime and was promptly arrested by the Time Variance Authority, who polices matters like these. He’s immediately ordered by officer Mobius M. Mobius (played by Owen Wilson) to go back and fix things. Can we really trust Loki not to just mess spacetime up further? Probably not, but at least it’ll be entertaining to watch.
In addition to Wilson and the returning Tom Hiddleston as Loki, the show will star Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, and Richard E. Grant. June 11 can’t come soon enough.
