Currently the new supernatural horror anime The Summer Hikaru Died streams through Netflix in most areas and the platform ABEMA within Japan, as well as direct broadcast on the Nippon TV station. As of now we can add China to the list of countries who can see the show.
CyberAgent, Inc., who co-produces the series along with KADOKAWA, announced today that they’ve struck a deal with bilibili, one of China’s largest video distribution platforms, to stream the series exclusively in the region. The deal went effective last Tuesday and the series should be available across the country now.
Later this month, there will be a Summer Hikaru Died panel at Otakon 2025 featuring Shuichiro Umeda, the voice actor of Hikaru. Fans can look forward to a live reading of scenes from the anime, as well as “a discussion exploring the series’ emotional complexity, mysterious atmosphere, and appeal of the characters.” After the panel concludes, attendees will have the change to get an autograph from Umeda. Otakon 2025 will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. from August 8-10.
The Summer Hikaru Died is about an ordinary high school boy, Yoshiki, who starts having strange experiences and encounters he can’t explain. Might they have something to do with the mysterious being he keeps running into that resembles his recently-deceased best friend Hikaru Indou? Is it Hikaru himself? What’s really happening, and is Yoshiki in danger? The Summer Hikaru Died is directed by Ryohei Takeshita, known for Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night. in addition to Kobayashi, other cast members include Shuichiro Umeda (Hikaru), Yumiri Hanamori (Asako), Wakana Kowaka (Rie) and Chikahiro Kobayashi (Tanaka).
New episodes of The Summer Hikaru Died are currently premiering weekly on Netflix in the US.
