The Mummy 4 Finally Has A Real Title

-

The Mummy 4 is dated for release one year from now, on October 15 of 2027. And it’s on that exact pre-anniversary that Universal has decided to reveal the actual title of the film, shooting now. We can officially start calling it “The Mummy: Book of the Dead.”

This is not a mystery item. The Book of the Dead has played a role in almost every film; it’s the reason the mummy Imhotep keeps rising in the first place. Its powers of resurrection have been used not just on foes but friends: Evie actually dies in the middle of The Mummy Returns and then comes back for its climax once her kid Alex gets hold of the book. It essentially means death has no meaning which…could be a problem if they don’t start putting some kind of limit on its use.

This title probably explains why more than one dead character is on the cast list for this movie. We’ve already covered that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning. John Hannah will also be back as as Evie’s brother, Jonathan Carnahan, plus Oded Fehr as mystic Medjai leader Ardeth Bay. But not only is Arnold Vosloo back as Imhotep, so is Kevin J. O’Connor as his modern-day assistant Beni Gabor. The point of the Medjai’s existence is to keep mummies from rising; maybe if they burned that book this would stop happening.

Set shots of Weisz and Fraser were posted on the Internet last month, and seem to confirm the new movie’s 1950s setting, as the characters are wearing what people would be in England during the 50s. The Mummy 4 will be unwrapped in theaters October 15, 2027.
