It’s hard to know where Disney+ would be without scoring an instant hit on Day 1 with The Mandalorian. It put the days-old streamer on the map, spawned a mountain’s worth of “Baby Yoda” merchandise, and (as the trailer repeatedly reminds us) put the words “This is the way” into the public consciousness. The irony is that same year, “The Rise Of Skywalker” would be released in theaters and would not gain nearly as much attention. It pretty much convinced Disney confining Star Wars to television was the way.
And yet despite its success, only 2 1/2 seasons of The Mandalorian have been made since its debut in 2019. There’s the two proper seasons and then there’s the part where Mando took over The Book Of Boba Fett after Fett himself wasn’t working out. Disney has responded to The Mandalorian’s success with a boatload of Star Wars shows, some great, some less so.
But the man in the helmet is back, and so is his green friend (if you don’t know how, again….that stuff’s in Boba). Though most people think of face-covered space warriors when the word “Mandalorian” comes up, the planet isn’t just one culture. Producer Dave Filoni’s previous shows The Clone Wars and Rebels went deeper into this, and they’re also where the Darksaber originated. Having that blade makes Din a target, but he can’t really get rid of it, as the only legal way of obtaining it is to kill the previous owner!
The video below doesn’t say this will be the final trailer for The Mandalorian, but this show debuts in less than 48 hours — we feel confident nothing else will spring up. Season 3 goes live Wednesday at midnight.
