The DC Classics Artists Editions are a series of large hardcover artbooks spotlighting the company’s brightest talent over its long history. The next volume was announced today, and it’ll be all about one of the longest-working people in the superhero business, José Luis García-López.
García-López has created covers and illustrated stories for DC for over six decades, and he was responsible for the DC house style, creating the Style Guide that other artists relied on. That’s a lot of material to sift through, but curator Scott Dunbier managed to narrow it down into a 240-page book containing dozens of raw 12″ x 17″ inked work, printed full size.
Included are the original cover art to DC Comics Presents #1, a page featuring Lois Lane from the DC Comics Style Guide, interior pages from DC Comics Presents #4 and #24, and the covers to Secret Origins #6 and Superman #322, as well as seven complete stories from Batman, Jonah Hex, Cinder and Ashe and others.
“This volume represents the most significant collection of García-López’s original art ever presented in this format,” DC says.
The cover shows off one of García-López’s most significant pieces, his cover for the landmark “Superman Takes A Wife” issue from 1996. DC provided us samples of several other pieces of art from the collection as well, which you can gawk at below. José Luis García-López’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition goes on sale March 23, 2027
