The Final Take, a game that lets players relive dark footage recorded from the perspective of multiple characters in this unique first person horror, has landed on Steam. Each character has had an alternate experience in different locations, but they all have something in common which connects them. Take control of a young female and relive these moments through found footage to uncover the sinister link between the strangers.
The game’s distinctive VHS effect and colour scheme delivers a realistic 1980s feel as the player progresses through different characters and moments in time, with hidden clues and messages that can only be discovered by re-playing the levels. Each location has a different twist and new enemies to encounter; some are aggressive, while others lurk in the shadows waiting for an opportunity to strike. Use light to reveal what is hidden beneath the cover of darkness, and use the camera as a guide to expose what the human eye cannot perceive.
According to the developers, The Final Take is set to have a number of features, including:
- Multiple Character Stories (Switched up Gameplay)
- Xbox Controller Support
- Different AI Behavior (Each Level plays different)
- Gather Collectibles to dive deeper into the story
- Hidden Objects only “Visible” by a few held items
- Play The Story in any order you choose
- Re-Wire Locked doors, and lock pick to gain access to rooms.
So far, the game has received generally positive reviews, with one player saying:
“The Final Take is a fine horror adventure game and an even bigger achievement when considering that this is the dev team’s debut on Steam. Everything about this game fits the ’80s horror flick style. From the VHS visual effects to the sound department. With plenty of replay value to offset the game’s relative short length, we also have a balanced difficulty slider. It does feature a few jump scares but it’s only fair given the genre. Rooms are dimly lit (even with the flashlight on) at times but it never felt that this is used out of convenience to hide textures or details. It’s one of those rare little gems that has a more than decent asking price right at launch. Any fans of the horror genre should try it and support an enthusiastic team of developers that have so much more to prove.”
