The Deadman Goes To The Next Level With DC Renewal

-

It’s been the perception of most people that DC’s Next Level line of titles are meant to be self-contained miniseries stories, because, well, they are. But apparently, if they do good enough, they can stretch beyond their intended length. The Deadman, one of the first Next Level books to launch, has leveled up, so to say. It was initially announced as a six-issue series, but that number has now been doubled to twelve.

The Deadman just released its third issue, under the creative team of W. Maxwell Prince, Martín Morazzo, Chris O’Halloran, and Good Ol’ Neon. It’s out understanding that team will stay on the book for its newly extended life.

“The response to our Deadman story has been absolutely spirit-lifting,” said W. Maxwell Prince. “We’re having so much fun giving new life to Boston Brand and his purgatorial world…and we’re not ready to give up the ghost just yet. Here’s to 6 more issues of monsters, mantras, and mystic math!”

The Deadman is Boston Brand, who is taking a journey through life, death, and the strange spaces in between. He now has extra time to explore. “The third edition of this morbid disquisition concerning the attrition/detrition of the human condition, which, in the weekly tradition, boasts a four-color exhibition on some printer’s emission,” reads DC’s official and very verbose description of the latest issue. “Here, by order of an anonymous optician, watch closely this vision of our titular apparition (armed, you’ll remember, with fresh erudition) try and survive—by another’s volition—a dire and dangerous mission through the hissin’,”

It goes on. “Stygian conditions of putrid and pockmarked Perdition—a kind of new rendition (depicted as a living, breathing, country-sized conniption), which is rich in its list of sick compositions: e.g., reason’s egregious abolition; a pyrotechnic passel of pernicious seditions; hideous, bulging buck-toothed dentition; admittedly ambitious demonic deglutition…of gargoyles and ghouls in decomposition…not to mention an array of impossible physical positions that a physician might consider the work of magicians. So please accept our contrition for this rude imposition, our addled transmission this ungodly, offset-press parturition—one that we wish some brave obstetrician would bring to fruition its quick decommission.” Did you get all that?

The third issue of The Deadman arrives in comic shops this week.
