Teen Shows on Netflix which got renewed and which got canceled

-

Netflix teen shows seemed to to have a short shelf life.  Call them lucky if they got a Season 2.

The Babysitters Club received positive feedback. According to the show’s producers, it has good ratings. Despite being cancelled after two seasons, it had higher ratings than some programs on other platforms. One of the cast members Xochitl Gomez got her big break with MCU and play America Chavez and Netflix could have taken advantage of that.

The soundtrack to Julie and the Phantoms sold successfully on Amazon and reached the charts. Netflix still canceled it because of the pandemic.

I am not Okay with this is from the Producers of Stranger Things and it has rave reviews. It still got canceled because its budget gave it higher expectations.  Chilling Adventures of Sabrina also suffered the same fate.

Netflix just canceled The Imperfects, which is about three college kids who found out their medication turned them into literals monsters. One of the lead roles is Iñaki Godoy who will play the role of Luffy in the Live action adaptation of One Piece. The cancellation destroys his momentum right away.

Now lets look at the teen shows that got renewed.

Blood and Water, a South African teen drama, tells the story of a girl who discovers that her classmate is her long-lost sister. A season 3 is currently in production.

The Elite is a Spanish teen show that has the most success. It got 5 seasons already and a 6th season is in production. This controversial drama even got a remake from India titled Class.

Heartstopper performed so well that Netflix bought a full series run. As in they renewed it until season 3 which was the intended ending. Young Royals had the same Market  with Heartstopper and its Season 2 is currently streaming but it will suffer the same fate with Baby Sitters club is it doesn’t reach the expectations.

There is now an Alwarabi School for Girls season 2.  The creator intended it to be a mini-series but it got global success.. This Jordanian drama is about a girl who tries to destroy the lives of the mean girls who bullied her.

From my observations, foreign teen shows have higher survival in Netflix. Because the Americans ones are screwed if they don’t perform well because their expectations is higher. If a show is out of top 10 trending before the end of the month, its numbered. Foreign shows tends to have smaller budgets hence smaller expectations. If you are lazy to read subtitles, Dub is an option, the acting with dub is not that good but its passable enough for me to watch.
