Star Trek has proven to be a profitable niche for CBS All Access. Whatever your opinion might be on the quality of the shows they’ve produced so far, there’s no denying the franchise has needed a new home for a long time, and thanks to streaming it has an owner willing to help it nurture and grow again. So far CBS All Access has produced two Trek shows — Discovery and Picard. Both have new seasons under production, and two more Treks no one has seen yet are in the wings: an untitled series starring Michelle Yeoh, and an animated satiricial series called “Lower Decks.” Now you can add an unprecedented FIFTH simultaneous Star Trek series to the pile: CBS announced Strange New Worlds this week. The show is a spinoff of Star Trek Discovery and focuses on three of its characters: Anson Mount’s Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn’s Number One and Ethan Peck’s Spock, shortly before Captain Kirk joins the Enterprise. Our biggest question: will Discovery be eventually cancelled
