There’s a lot of Persona coming our way, suddenly. News leaked yesterday of two titles coming to consoles soon: a remake of Persona 3 and a Persona 5 spinoff game called Persona 5 Tactica. In the latter, you move stylized P5 characters on a grid, position them strategically, and attack with turn-based moves. It’s much like XCOM or those games where Mario meets the Rabbids.
June only just started, but manga publisher Viz is already thinking 30 days ahead. Some of the books you can expect to be localized this Independence Day include such subjects as humanoid robots, post-apocalyptic deserts, and zombie hunters (meaning zombies that hunt). Another volume of the Persona manga is on the way, as is a reverse Harry Potter about a non-magical boy trying to scrape by in a highly magical school. And if you just want something different, Viz is also publishing a recipe book that shows you how to make bento boxes that resemble Disney characters. Pick your poison!

Persona 5, the smash hit RPG from 2016, is coming back with extra content! Since Atlus isn’t ready to show off Persona 6, they’re reprinting the fifth game with a new area to explore, an additional semester of school, and a new Phantom Thief, Kasumi Yoshizawa (also known as Violet). Is that enough to warrant a double-dip purchase? Only you can decide, but I too wish they were putting this on Switch.
We’ve known for quite some time that Atlus was working on an “enhanced” version of Persona 5; we just didn’t know what would be in it or what systems it’d appear on. Today the first lengthy trailer for Persona 5: The Royal, or Persona 5r, was revealed, along with a Japanese release date (Halloween 2019) and a Western release window (sometime in 2020).
Nintendo surprise-dropped a video covering the release of Smash Bros Ultimate Version 3.0 to the Web this evening. The video was 15 minutes long and could have easily been its own Direct, but….we know by now that to call Nintendo unpredictable would be an understatement.
Rumors that something called “Persona 5 R” was on the way have been confirmed. Atlus uploaded a short teaser to YouTube this morning….30 seconds in length, and revealing its existence.

Persona 5 is a game about the internal and external conflicts of a group of troubled youth who live dual lives.
