How and why is there so much Godzilla news coming out at once? There’s a new Toho movie, there’s a first-of-its-kind English translation of the original book coming, and now we’re hearing of a Godzilla TV show on the way for Apple TV+.
If you’ve spent any time around the social medias, you’ve no doubt seen a cartoon strip shared where a bunch of blue aliens with bulbous heads describe a mundane occurrence in modern life with outrageously overwritten dialogue. That’s the gimmick of Strange Planet, the webcomic created by Nathan Pyle, and next month, it becomes one of just a handful of webcomics to rise high enough to get its own animated adaption. (Nimona, the movie that debuted on Netflix last month, also had Web origins.)
Schmigadoon! Season 2 is something I never expected to happen because Apple TV Plus shows are mostly stand-alone mini-series. They do not end their shows with cliffhangers. So you won’t have a broken heart if it is not renewed. So seeing this show starring SNL alums Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong return is a perfect surprise.
Through the years, as so many video games have been adapted into movies, it’s been a commonly told joke that eventually somebody would get desperate enough to make a movie out of Tetris. Apple actually announced such a movie not too long ago. The common assumption was that a Tetris movie would be about giant bricks falling from the sky and crushing cities, but the actual film we’re getting has a better reason for being than that. The Tetris movie is about how Tetris escaped Soviet Russia to become a global phenomenon, which is a fascinating story.
The hugely successful horror film M3GAN will be followed by a sequel titled M3GAN 2.0. Fans have already formed assumptions about what will happen in the sequel, particularly in light of what happened at the end of the first film. Allison Williams and Violet Mcgraw will return in the show’s second season. This implies that M3GAN is not yet finished with Gemma and Kady. M3GAN’s Physical actress Amie Donald and voice actress Jenna Davis are still not asked to return.
Raymond and Ray join the growing original film library of Apple TV Plus. Directed and Penned by Rodrigo García. The movie explores resented relationships with neglectful and abusive parents. It also tackles the division between half-siblings. Some half siblings get along beautifully, while others have a contentious relationship with one another.
Luck is Apple TV’s ambitious attempt to make a family-friendly animated film. It was developed by Skydance Animation, A studio composed of former employees of some big studios like Disney and Universal. Most shows from this platform are dark, so it is a refreshing change to see something wholesome.
Wecrashed is a drama show is based on Actual events, and it is about the rise and fall and recovery of the company WeWork. WeWork was co-built by Adam Neumann, an Israeli-born entrepreneur, to create an environmentally sustainable workplace where employees embrace their work. It can be comparable to the Hulu series The Dropout, which is about the rise and fall of Theranos. A Workplace where you don’t like you are working. That is the image of WeWork.
The surf will be up on Apple TV when they produce a TV adaption of the children’s graphic novel series “Surfside Girls.” The announcement was made by the streamer / overpriced electronics producer over the weekend.
The list of nominees for the 93rd Academy Awards was released yesterday, and it marks a weird moment for the Oscars, which is now celebrating twelve months of what was largely a dead zone for the industry. Theaters were shut down for most of 2020 and a lot of of them remain closed. Somehow, a full list of nominees was produced, but due to the consequence of nothing playing, it’s the most unfamiliar-to-non-critics list in a long time. The ceremony is destined to receive record low ratings…there just ain’t much buzz for something called “Mank.”
