SurvHive Enters Steam Early Access
SurvHive, a horror RPG from developer and publisher Rocking Hamster, has landed on Steam Early Access, getting a lot of positive attention upon its release. In the game, you can pick your career among: Scientist, Engineer, Cultist or Soldier and try to survive as long as you can. Don’t trust anyone because a former friend might have been contaminated when you were not looking. Each of these categories has their own unique skills which are important to group cohesion and achieving objectives.
Players will also receive objectives known only to them which they will be encouraged to accomplish and end up pitting the player against player. The game is won by either escaping or destroying the alien and any infected humans. Inspired by The Thing, the game is set to have a number of features, including:
- Try to find out who the aliens are. Stay away from them.
- Alien players must contaminate the crew using a stealth, shape-shifted approach, or through fully unleashed agressivity.
- Alien players can mutate to gain new powers, such as wall/roof climbing.
- Watch your sanity level. Panting while you’re hidden in the dark is rarely a good idea.
- Meet with everyone in a room to pass a blood test, defend key areas, extinguish fires and more.
- Accomplish secret objectives, be a traitor.
- Hack systems.
- Deploy sentry guns.
- Conduct scientific research.
- Engineer items: Cloaking device, Flamethrower, Extinguisher, Assault Rifle, Radio and more.
- Try to escape. There is only one escape shuttle.
SurvHive takes a lot of its cues from both John Carpenter’s The Thing as well as Alien and Aliens. The common themes of a shape-shifting alien that has the ability infect other beings and turn them into themselves, causing paranoia and group tension as they do not know who to trust. The futuristic setting of a mining operation on another planet and the ship involved show the game’s cinematic influences. Also like Aliens, the firearms used are essentially 20th-century firearms with futuristic names and a few cosmetic alterations. You can find the game on Steam Early Access.
