The Surge: New Gamescom Footage Released
Deck13 and Focus Home Interactive dropped some new footage for the upcoming sci-fi action RPG, The Surge, today at Gamescom. You can check out the full 15-minute gameplay video in the player below. The new footage showcases the game’s combat mechanics and crafting system for the gameplay experience.
This is really the first extended look at gameplay for the game. Players take the role of a character who is outfitted with an advanced CREO exo-suit. It balances core power against implants and exo-suit upgrades to allow players to specialize in a variety of combat styles thanks to combinations and add-ons of make-shift weapons that can be salvaged throughout the game. Players can tune their gear to match their suited play style in the game.
Deck13 is describing the levels in the game as “Metroidvanian,” which will enable gamers to over-charge doors previously too strong for the exo-suit to damage and open up new pathways that can be explored for the industrial CREO facility.
The Surge is scheduled for a 2017 release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. Here’s an official synopsis:
Set in a heavily dystopian future as Earth nears the end of its life, those who remain in the overpopulated cities must work to survive as social programs become saturated by an ageing population and increasing environmental diseases.
As the intelligence of technology incrementally increased over the years, many jobs for the human race had been made redundant, forcing Earth’s citizens to head out into the suburbs seeking labor, aided by exoskeletons to improve their efficiency. The world of The Surge offers a very grim vision of the future, where the evolution of our technology, our society and our relation with the environment led to a decadent state of the Human civilization.
