Do you love survival, Star Trek, and immersing yourself into the games you play? Then this upcoming Star Trek VR game, Star Trek: Infection, is going to be right up your alley!
Developed by Played with Fire and Published by Broken Mirror Games, Star Trek: Infection is a survival VR game set in the titular world of Star Fleet and space exploration. Star Trek is no stranger to the VR genre, with Star Trek Bridge Crew being a fun experience. However, while Bridge Crew is a more traditional take on the Star Trek world, Infection jumps into a far different genre.
Infection touches on an aspect of the world we sometimes see in shows like Star Trek: Next Generation and Deep Space 9. Infection explores how space is not only a frontier for adventure, but also of horrific things that that hide in the unknown. We’ve seen this in things like the Borg and Q, but now we have a view of it from the perspective of an average officer.
You play as a Vulcan Starfleet officer, trapped on a dead and empty ship. You are not alone, however, as a parasite has taken hold of everything, including your own body. Now mutating and having your own Vulcan abilities change, you must fight to keep not only your life, but even your own mind and body.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS VR STAR TREK GAME
- Tend to Your VR Body: Inhabit a full-body avatar in VR as an alien organism mutates your physical form. Keep an eye on your condition, deciding whether to treat or cultivate the mutations.
- Fight or Embrace the Infection: The infection is changing more than your appearance. Your renowned Vulcan composure is showing cracks while your signature telepathy is altered, all while unlocking new but unstable powers. It’s up to you to juggle your mutations, learning to manage or exploit the side effects.
- Face Horrors in Your Mind: Your sanity is faltering. Traumatic memories buried long ago are being resurfaced, against your will. Shadows move where they shouldn’t. It’s as if something in the ship is learning your fears and using them against you.
- Set Phasers to Stun & Scan for Life: Use your phaser or rely on stealth and your iconic Vulcan nerve pinch to silently take down threats. Use your tricorder to scan for dangers and uncover vital resources.
- Get Your Hands Dirty: Use your VR hands to interact with the ship. Use tools and workstations to physically craft items and gadgets
Star Trek: Infection will release sometime in 2025 for VR on the Meta Store, as well as a on Steam shortly after. You can also discuss Star Trek: Infection on the PopGeeks Video Game Forum!
