Sorry Jack, Chucky’s Definitely Back: New Trailer For TV Series
Forget that embarrassing 2019 remake…the real deal is here. After a development cycle spanning several years and one pandemic, Chucky the Killer Doll finally has his own TV series, which debuts its first episode in a matter of days.
Both series creator / head writer Don Mancini and voice of Chucky Brad Dourif are back to make sure everything goes smoothly…er, chaotically. Also returning are other veteran actors of the movies including Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany, who somehow has managed to regain her own body. She still seems smitten with Chucky, though, which could get weird.
Mancini’s original idea for the first Child’s Play was that a demented kid would somehow bring his Cabbage Patch doll (or knockoff legal equivalent) to life and send it after the people he didn’t like. The pitch was reshaped by other writers so that the kid was innocent and the doll was possessed by a serial killer, a change Mancini initially resented but eventually warmed to. The general plot thread of this new series seems to be inspired by Mancini’s original pitch — Chucky performs his usual amount of stabbings, but as acts of vengeance against those who have wronged his new buddy Jake.
Jake picks up Chucky from a yard sale, and Mr. Lee Ray quickly learns just how put-upon and picked on the teen is around his community. Seeing a bit of himself in Jake, Chucky takes it upon himself to mentor the kid. He becomes the devil in his ear, whispering bad ideas, and when Jake doesn’t take the bait, Chucky does the deeds himself.
The Chucky series will premiere October 12 on USA and SyFy. (Poster image courtesy of USA/SyFy)
