Shazam: Fury Of The Gods Second Trailer Appears
The problem with making a big announcement about how you’re about to revamp the entire DC Cinematic Universe is that it’s not an instantaneous decision. You can’t just remove the last few films being produced under the old guard and replace them with new movies equally far along in production. So though Shazam: Fury of the Gods tries to make a big deal out of itself, the sad truth is that this long-delayed movie arrived too late. We really hope it’s not stuffed with sequel-bait scenes, because we know those aren’t coming.
What will save this film is if it’s a good stand-alone flick, and the first Shazam was fun, so…who knows. If you remember back that far, the ending to the first Shazam brought things into the “Marvel Family” era and turned all his friends into superheroes. With that many, they’re gonna need a real challenge to keep things interesting! Enter the Daughters of Atlas: a group of controlling, despotic goddesses who are displeased with Billy and his family wielding such powers. They feel Shazam and the Batsons must be stopped, and unleash their fury on Earth!
We knew most of this, but the new trailer reveals they have a dragon and Shazam will be fighting it….a LOT. There are no shortage of dragon scenes, in multiple locations. Also, at one point Shazam refers to the dragon as Khaleesi, incorrectly using the word as the title for a dragon instead of a queen. But it’s a kid in there, who probably isn’t allowed to watch Game of Thrones anyway, so we’ll let it slide.
Shazam: Fury of the Gods stars Zachary Levi, Meagan Good, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Grace Fulton, Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu. It will be released March 17, after which point WB has two Old DCU movies to burn off: Aquaman 2 and (if you can believe it, they still haven’t cancelled this) The Flash.
