Sagat Returns: The King of Muay Thai Enters Street Fighter 6 on August 5th!

Get ready, World Warriors, because the King is back.

Capcom has officially revealed the first DLC fighter of Street Fighter 6‘s Year 3, and it’s none other than Sagat, the towering Muay Thai legend whose very name once struck fear into the hearts of fighters across the globe.

Longtime fans remember him well: one of Shadaloo’s infamous Four Kings, a former final boss, and a warrior fueled by pride and vengeance. But Street Fighter 6 is set in 2023, and times have changed. Sagat, now in his mid-60s, is a man who’s traded chaos for clarity. He’s retreated from the world stage, choosing to live a quiet life in the mountains of Thailand. Yet even in solitude, the spirit of a fighter never fades.

Street Fighter 6 – Sagat Teaser Trailer

A Teaser That Hits Hard

The new trailer sets the tone perfectly. It opens on a peaceful village, kids laughing in the background as SF6’s World Tour avatar Johnny searches for “the king.” A friendly local girl points him in the right direction… and then, a pulse of tiger energy fills the screen. You already know what’s coming.

Sagat appears, and he’s looking sharper than ever. His new look reflects both age and experience: a rugged, fur-lined vest gives him a seasoned, almost mythical air, like an old master who’s earned every scar. His body’s leaner than in past games, not the oversized tank we remember from the Alpha days, but still carved from stone, showing what 60+ years of Muay Thai discipline will do to a man. Shirtless as always, with traditional shorts and wrapped fists, Sagat looks like someone who’s not just survived the years, but mastered them.

And then, just to remind everyone he’s still the same monster deep down, he lifts a massive log and annihilates it with a Tiger Uppercut. Classic.

Sagat officially joins the roster on August 5th, ready to bring his mix of discipline, power, and experience back to the ring.

Summer’s About to Get Spicy

Before Sagat arrives, Capcom is dropping a set of sizzling Costume 4 swimsuits this July, featuring new looks for Chun-Li, Cammy, Manon, Luke, Jamie, Kimberly, and A.K.I. Veteran fighters Chun and Cammy may be in their 50s now in SF6’s timeline, but they’re still out here flexing confidence and charisma, proving that experience really is the best buff.

Sagat: The King Has Evolved

Sagat’s return isn’t just a throwback, it’s a statement. From his dark past with Shadaloo to a life of self-reflection, his story has come full circle. This isn’t the same Sagat who fought out of anger or pride. This is a Sagat who’s learned, evolved, and found peace, but still steps into the ring when the time comes. Because for a true warrior, the fight never ends.

August 5th, the King of Muay Thai returns. Leaner, older, wiser… but just as dangerous.

They really made Sagat look like a legendary fighter now. Not some evil boss, but someone who has trained for decades and lived in peace. I like this version much more than the angry one from before. He looks strong, but also kind of sad. Like someone who carries his past. That makes him feel more real to me.

Considering Sagat's history, especially his past with Shadaloo and characters like Ryu, I wonder how his interactions will be in Street Fighter 6. Has he completely severed ties with his past, or will there be lingering connections and rivalries? The article mentions that he has found clarity, so perhaps his interactions will be more mature and reflective. It would be interesting to see if he has any unique dialogue or story moments with characters he has encountered before. Given that Street Fighter 6 has a significant story mode, World Tour, I hope Sagat will play a meaningful role in i

I just hope his zoning is still strong. I know they’re going with a wiser, leaner Sagat, but don’t make him too soft. He’s still Sagat. Tiger Shots, big anti-airs, corner pressureβ€”that’s what I want. I respect the story angle and visuals, but gameplay has to match. If I can still frustrate people from full screen, I’m sold.

Oh great, Sagat is back. Just what we needed. As someone who has suffered countless matches against him in the past, I can't say I'm thrilled about this announcement. The article talks about his evolution and finding clarity, but let's be honest, what most players remember about Sagat is his oppressive zoning game. Those Tiger Shots and Tiger Uppercuts creating a wall you just couldn't get through. It wasn't fun to play against; it was just frustrating.

The thought of having to deal with that again in Street Fighter 6 doesn't exactly fill me with excitement. I understand he's a classic character and a fan favorite for many, but for those of us who prefer more engaging, up-close combat, Sagat's presence often turned matches into tedious projectile battles. I hope that this "leaner, older, wiser" version doesn't just translate to even more efficient ways to keep opponents at a distance. While the article tries to paint a picture of a reformed character, deep down, I'm worried that the King of Zoning is simply reclaiming his throne, and I'm not looking forward to it. Maybe this time will be different, but I'm keeping my expectations low.

I’ve been playing Street Fighter since Super Turbo, and Sagat was always the gatekeeper of fundamentals. His zoning with Tiger Shots and crushing anti-airs made you respect neutral. Seeing him back in SF6, older and leaner, gives me goosebumps. This redesign is perfectβ€”he’s no longer the brute of SFIV but a seasoned fighter who’s aged with honor. The trailer gave me flashbacks of fighting him in arcade days and still somehow felt fresh. I hope Capcom lets him play a real mid-range game again, with emphasis on reads and spacing, not just power. This version of Sagat seems like he’ll reward patience and smart play. Can’t wait to lab him out and see how he fits in the meta.

So Sagat’s 60+ now, huh? Meanwhile, I can’t even go to the gym twice a week without my back giving out. But real talk, this is the kind of legacy character I love seeing. Not nostalgia bait, but actual character growth. SF6 is good at that. The devs didn’t just throw him in for fan serviceβ€”they gave him a life beyond the fight. I respect that. The design is top-tier, too. Looks like he’s been training every day in the mountains since SF4. The man didn’t skip leg day once. Let’s just hope his toolkit still includes good fireball pressure and not some neutered V-Trigger nonsense.

I’m not gonna lieβ€”I’m more hyped for Chun and Cammy swimsuit costumes than Sagat. But okay, I’ll bite. Sagat looks cool. Not my playstyle, I prefer rushdown characters who get in your face fast. But I respect his legacy. He’s a symbol of discipline and control. Watching his teaser trailer, though, I actually got interested. There’s something noble about him now. I think some people will pick him up just for the vibes, not just gameplay. That’s rare in fighting games.

Finally. Finally, the OG zoner is back. Don’t get me wrongβ€”I like Guile and JP, but Sagat hits different. He’s the definition of keep-out play done right. If Capcom gives him proper high and low Tiger Shot control, we’re gonna see a real shift in neutral dynamics. People forgot how oppressive good fireball zoning can be. SF6 needs that right now. The game is very scramble-heavy, and Sagat could bring some structure back. Please Capcom, don’t make him slow and clunky like SFV.

Okay, I’m gonna be honest… I’m terrified. I main Lily. I already have to deal with people laughing when I try to get in with Condor Wind, and now Capcom drops Sagat into the game? A literal walking anti-air legend? This is not good for me.

Lily already struggles with characters who can zone or control space, and now we get the king of zoning himself. And he’s wise now? So he’s not gonna make mistakes either? Great. I can already imagine trying to Wind in and getting Tiger Uppercutted before I even leave the ground.

I don’t mind legacy characters getting love, but sometimes it feels like players like meβ€”who pick the β€œless popular” onesβ€”are just left behind. Sagat fans are eating good, and I’m over here praying for buffs every patch. Like, Capcom, can you please make it fair? At least give Lily faster normals or something if you’re going to add these fortress-type characters.

I’ll still try to fight him, of course. But I know what’s coming. It’s gonna be pain. Tiger Shot. Tiger Shot. Condor Spire? Nope. Tiger Uppercut.
