Romance in the House

“Romance in the House” ~ A 2024 Netflix Limited Series

“Romance in the House” is a 2024 Korean drama Netflix Limited series, with 12 episodes, and can be categorized as Family, Romance, and Comedy.

SUMMARY: In “Romance in the House”, an ex-husband who failed miserably in business gets divorced. His wife never remarries and his kids grow up without him. One day he comes back to his family as the landlord who now owns the homes they are living in. He also moves back in because he wants to beg his wife to take him back. His daughter opposes the reunion but his son is all for it. But the one who needs to make the final decision is his ex-wife. Will she let him into her heart again?

Honey! I’m Back!

In “Romance in the House”, Byeon Moo-jin and Geum Ae-yeon get divorced for the same reason most married couples get divorced. Mainly, there were financial difficulties and the difficulties were mainly caused by Byeon Moo-jin. For some reason, his business ventures turned out to be bad misadventures. With two kids to raise ~ Byeon Mi-rae and Byeon Hyeon-jae ~ and a husband who never seems to be successful at anything, there’s only so much a wife is willing to take. Byeon Moo-jin accepts the divorce and leaves peacefully, never to come back again. Come again? He came back??!! He came back as their landlord?

OK! You’re the new landlord. But do you have to move back into the house too? That was probably Geum Ae-yeon’s initial thought. However, Byeon Moo-jin was thinking about rekindling the flame and getting back together as a couple. He still has the hots for her. Maybe she still feels the same. Maybe living together again under the same roof, she’ll find him simply irresistible. He won’t know if he doesn’t try.

What? Did he bother to ask his grown-up kids what they think about their mom and dad getting back together? It doesn’t matter if he asked or not. They are going to let him know how they feel. The daughter, Byeon Mi-rae, disapproves, but the son, Byeon Hyeon-jae, thinks it’s great!! It figures he would back up his dad. But guess who has been paying most of the bills while Dad wasn’t here? Yeah! That’s right. Who cares if Dad is rich NOW? The daughter is the one who provides the major support for the house, and what she thinks should count more! Right?

Uuummm … Hello! Remember me? I’m Geum Ae-yeon, the mom and the ex-wife. What I decide is what counts!

QUESTION:  How is it that a man who constantly failed in business became so rich?  How exactly did he make his fortune?

Where to Watch

Viewership and Rating:

  • IMDb: 7.8 out of 10 stars
  • MyDramaList: 7.8 out of 10 stars
  • Dramabeans: 9 out of 10 stars

My personal rating is 8 out of 10 stars.

A lighthearted Korean drama with 12 episodes that is not too intense or dramatic is always good for a quiet Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Or? You could just take a nap! LOL. But I think if you watch this series before you take your nap, you might have sweet dreams. LOL.

As someone who works in tech, I find the Y2K bug fascinating. It's a great reminder of how important it is to have robust systems in place. I'm curious to see how the movie will handle the technical aspects of the story.
