When you think about the fact that you’re getting into the car of a complete stranger — something they warned you not to do in grade school for various reasons — the ridesharing business would seem ripe for tales of horror. Prolific Pictures is readying what they call an “Uber Frightening Thriller” for its debut at Cannes.
Not only is End Trip a relatively new horror concept, it’s kind of a twisty one, involving two converging timelines and multiple roles. We had some difficulty following this:
“In one timeline, Brandon, a likable rideshare driver, spends an evening charming a passenger, Judd, for a 5-star rating and a hefty tip. In the other timeline, Brandon arrives home after his long shift and climbs into bed with girlfriend, Stef. Stef screams. He’s not Brandon! The rideshare with Judd continues, growing creepier by the mile, as Brandon forces Stef to play his girlfriend. The two timelines come together in a shocking twist, and Stef must fight for her life against a ruthless serial killer preying upon a city full of people who ride with strangers.”
End Trip stars Dean J. West, Aaron Jay Rome and Ashley Lenz, and was directed by Rome with Max Shifrin, Jeremy John Wells and West serving as producers. Prolific will be shopping End Trip around at Cannes for a distribution deal. The film currently has no wide release date.
