Ranma 1/2 is having a remake!
Anime fans, get ready to relive the crazy adventures of Ranma Saotome! Studio Mappa has announced a new version of the classic series, Ranma ½. Created by the legendary manga artist Rumiko Takahashi, the original show was a huge hit in the ’80s and ’90s.The story follows Ranma, a boy who can magically transform into a girl when doused with cold water. To change back, he needs hot water. This unique ability leads him on wild adventures filled with martial arts, comedy, and unforgettable characters. Ranma mostly hates being a girl because of his male gender identity but sometimes he takes advantage of the perks of being a girl. The new Ranma will be a bit different. To appeal to a wider audience, the creators will tone down some of the female nudity. But don’t worry, the heart of the story and the iconic characters will still be there. Plus, the original Japanese voice actors are returning, which is exciting news for older fans!

How did Ranma get the curse?
The whole adventure started when Ranma and his dad, Genma, were training in martial arts. They were practicing on top of tall, thin poles over a bunch of small, natural pools in China. These pools are called Jusenkyo. Legend has it that a long time ago, different creatures drowned in each of these pools. If you fell into one and got wet with cold water, you’d turn into that creature! Unlucky for Ranma, he landed in the Spring of the Drowned Girl, so he became a girl when splashed with cold water. Genma wasn’t so lucky either, he ended up in the Spring of the Drowned Panda! To change back to normal, they both needed to get wet with warm water. But they weren’t the only ones cursed. Some of Ranma’s rivals also fell into these magical pools. Shampoo turned into a cat, and Ryoga became a little pig!
Redemption from 90s cancelation.
One of the biggest complaints about the original Ranma ½ anime was its sudden ending. The story was cut short, leaving fans hanging with unanswered questions. To make it worst, The anime was canceled. Even the manga, while full of exciting adventures, didn’t have a clear ending. Rumiko Takahashi, the brilliant mind behind Ranma, chose to keep the story open-ended. She explained that she wanted both male and female Ranma to exist, and curing the curse would mean losing the female version. While this creative decision is understandable, many fans believe there’s a way to wrap up the story without sacrificing either character.
This remake is a golden opportunity to give fans the ending they’ve been waiting for. Imagine seeing all those loose ends tied together and the Ranma story brought to a satisfying conclusion. Ranma 1/2 will air in Japan this October 5. Netflix Japan YouTube Trailer for it already. I am hoping for a global release to follow.
