Queen Cleopatra is a Documentary coming to Netflix Produced by Jada Pinkett Smith. This debate-provoking documentary will be on Netflix this May 10, 2023. Most of our history teachers told us Cleopatra is Macedonian Greek. Some individuals assert that Cleopatra is of Egyptian ethnicity, but Jada Pinkett-Smith’s documentary convinces many that she is Black. However, this documentary offended some Egyptians, who petitioned to cancel its release. Eventually, the documentary was taken down due to allegations of hate speech. Greeks also seem to claim Cleopatra, so they also started their own petitions.

Queen Cleopatra is propagandizing that Cleopatra is black because Egypt is in Africa. It interviewed some Black Historians, saying that opinion.

The most popular movie portrayal of  Cleopatra was the Portrayal of Elizabeth Taylor back in the 1960s. So this gives many people having this belief that she is white. After this movie many more Hollywood movies set in Ancient Egypt cast Caucasian actors and Caucasian presenting actors to play Ancient Egyptians. Also many historians stands by the information Cleopatra is Macedonian Greek.

Then we also have Egyptians who claims Cleopatra is Ethnic Egyptian because she is queen of Egypt after all.  Here is a tweet from an Egyptian that claims she is Egyptian.

So when did the claim that Cleopatra is a black woman start? It happens during the Civil rights movement. It was a part of the propaganda to show Black people had contributions to history. There were Black Pharaohs, the most prominent from 760 BC to 656 BC. They are the Nubian dynasty, who are indeed black and had ruled Egypt for a long time. Cleopatra is part of the Ptolemaic dynasty, which are greek speaking people. Most Greek-speaking Macedonians during those times were not black nor Arab.
