Possible Push Back for Diablo 3 Release

Since it’s release in June 2000 (yes, more than a decade ago!), Diablo 2 has continued to captivate the gaming community. But, it has also left fans wanting more. Unfortunately, they may have to wait a little longer than expected to satisfy their hunger for the next Diablo installment.

Blizzard has not announced the official release date. Instead they have cited ‘around Christmas time 2011’. Recently, multiple gaming retailers (including Gamestop) have stated they were told to expect Diablo 3 to debut in store sometime in January 2012. Blizzard has yet to confirm or deny these accusations but fans of the franchise shouldn’t get their hopes up for a 2011 release until an official date has been revealed.

Why the delay?  With the success of games such as Dragon Age which can be played across platforms, Blizzard has confirmed a project that could mean we may see Diablo 3 on both console and PC once it releases. If Blizzard is successful in their endeavor, they will be breaking into an entirely new gaming demographic. Those who prefer console gaming will get to experience Diablo on the platform they feel most comfortable. So while waiting another nine months seems daunting, Blizzard is taking a huge step to ensure that gamers of all kind will enjoy this release.

And for those of you like me who prefer PC gaming, we just need to keep reminding ourselves that it will be well worth the wait. Let’s take a moment to remember our excitement by viewing the trailer:
