POKÉMON X KOGEI Art Exhibit Now Open In LA

Japan House, a Southern Californian museum that displays works from contemporary Japanese artists, is now showing off a line of works with a specific theme. It’s POKEMON X KOGEI, a collaboration between The Pokemon Company and the Japanese art community that resulted in over 70 works created by 20 renowned artists. It’s now available to stare at in the US.

The exhibition’s offerings range from pieces from seasoned metal artists like Morihito Katsura to young artists just starting out like sculptor Taiichiro Yoshida. Many of them are pretty wild. “Pikachu Forest,” for example, is a piece by textile designer Reiko Sudo that is made up of over 900 strands of lace suspended from the ceiling, each containing the shape of a Pikachu somewhere in it. Then there’s “Jolteon,” a rendition of the legendary electric-type assembled from hundreds of individual pieces of gold- and silver-plated copper, each hammered into the shape of lightning bolts. This stuff took a while.

“This unique collaboration answer the question, ‘What happens when Pokémon meets kogei?’ for art enthusiasts and gamers alike,” said Yuko Kaifu, president of Japan House Los Angeles. “We’re excited to present this unique collaboration with exceptional artists and artworks showcasing the rich world of Japanese craft through the global phenomenon of Pokémon appreciated by all ages around the world.”

The exhibit originally opened earlier this year at National Crafts Museum, and will be in America until January 7. While that’s a long time, there are no plans to show the exhibit anywhere else besides Japan House.

The intricate pieces, like "Jolteon," which was made of hundreds of lightning-bolt-shaped copper pieces, mesmerized me. The ceiling of "Pikachu Forest" was covered in 900 strands of lace in the shape of Pikachus, making it truly unique. It's amazing to see how Japanese craftsmanship and Pokémon have merged.

The POKÉMON X KOGEI art exhibition at Los Angeles' Japan House is fantastic! The Pokemon Company and Japanese artists have an amazing collaboration. "Jolteon" with its gold- and silver-plated copper design is stunning, and "Pikachu Forest" is adorable with its many lace Pikachus. I can't wait to see more incredible creations that showcase Japanese craftsmanship and the allure of Pokémon.

Pikachus hanging from the ceiling, and "Jolteon" made of hammered copper in the shape of lightning bolts sounds super cool. The fusion of Pokémon and traditional Japanese art is a stroke of genius.

Oh, how I wish I could afford to see the POKÉMON X KOGEI exhibit. It sounds fantastic, but my wallet has been feeling the pinch lately. Being broke stinks, but hey, that's life, right? I'll have to live vicariously through others' experiences and hope to catch a glimpse of it online or through photos taken by friends.

I can totally relate to that feeling. Being broke can be tough, especially when there are exciting events like the POKÉMON X KOGEI exhibit happening. It's like missing out on a dream come true. But you know what? I believe that someday, things will get better. I
