An unexpected, yet no doubt interesting piece of news has been released by Sony today that looks to change the way gamers use Home forever.
Hit the jump for the changes.
Say goodbye to the Central Plaza and all you once knew in Home. Later this Fall, Sony will undergo a complete redesign of the core of the popular application. The redesign promises to connect gamers faster and better than ever before to all that Home has to offer.
The new ‘core’ of Home consists of a Hub connecting to various districts that are defined by genre. You can find a plethora of options here with, in Sony’s words, ” games, quests, community events, user-generated content, while providing you with additional navigation, shopping, socialization, and entertainment options”. Sounds like quite and endeavour!
The Hub will feature a new Activity Board filled with games to play, rewards to be won, and a new UGC events system. The activity board literally turns Home into a game with the players choosing what to do and when to do it. In addition to the new center of the Home universe, there will be a variety of new districts based on genres so you’ll always know where to go depending on the mood that you’re in at the time.
The Action district is the first of these districts providing a place for fans of Horror, Shooter, and Action games. Sportswalk provides up to the minutes major league sports scores, highlights, and headlines for the Sports gamer in you. A “lush, beachfront jungle” for adventure gamers awaits you in the Adventure district. Perhaps the most interesting though would be the Pier Park complete with a Ferris Wheel you can ride. This one is for party, puzzle, carnival, arcade, and outdoor games. It will be for people who enjoy Indie and Arcade games.
All in all, this new Home revision looks to provide a more streamlined experience to the end-user. Gone will be the old Central Plaza, long live the new Hub! …Well, we’ll see when the Home update launches this fall for all PlayStation Network gamers.
