Paramount Considering A Call Of Duty Movie

Interesting news coming out of Paramount today: they say they’ve worked a deal with Call of Duty owner Activision to adapt their long-running military bro shooter series for the big screen. To answer your first and immediate question, no, this hasn’t happened before. One would think a Call of Duty feature film would have come out in the late 2000s or something but, apparently, no one thought of it until now.

“Under this milestone partnership, Paramount will develop, produce, and distribute a live-action feature film based on Call of Duty, designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series, while boldly expanding the franchise to entirely new audiences,” Paramount crows in a press statement. “Both companies are committed to honoring the brand’s rich narrative and distinctive style, promising an authentic and exciting experience for longtime fans and newcomers alike.”

Call of Duties are less about “narrative” and more about dudebros coming together online to shoot each other in multiplayer maps. Some releases of the game haven’t had a single-player campaign at all. And Call of Duty has no real central narrative to speak of — each game has a different story and the series has taken place across multiple eras, fighting every war of the 20th century and a few made up ones for the future. In reality, Paramount could take any military movie script they have lying around and slap the brand on it. Heck, if they have a zombie movie script, that could work too.

But should the project move further, we’ll probably hear of a hired script writer, as well as a director, producers and everything. Paramount currently has nothing but the name.
