The Walking Dead franchise is no stranger to video games at this point. Telltale’s success with their comic book adaption is well-known, and both the comic and TV series have been adapted into other games — usually, cheap phone stuff. Overkill’s The Walking Dead, however, is different — it’s a serious attempt at a big expensive AAA fancy-pants game set in the comic’s universe.
Starbreeze, Skybound Entertainment and 505 Games have been working on Overkill’s The Walking Dead for quite a while, and drip-feed new information out every now and then. They’ve introduced two central characters in the co-op FPS so far, Aiden the bat-wielding wanderer and Maya the former surgeon. Today it’s time to meet Grant.
Of all the survivors we’ve met so far, Grant may be the best prepared for the apocalypse – a steely outdoorsman who left city life behind to live out his golden years in the wilderness with his trusty scoped rifle. But as we find him back in Washington, D.C., searching for his lost family, it’s clear that while the world may have changed, the hunt is the same.
You’ll be able to play as Grant, or possibly other unrevealed characters, when Overkill’s The Walking Dead launches at last this fall, on Playstation 4, XBox One and PC.
