The next update coming to Nintendo Switch Online is for its rarely updated Mature 17+ off-branch of the Nintendo 64 section. To date, just four games have been a part of it: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Shadow Man, and Perfect Dark, with Shadow Man being the most recent update. They can’t hold out on Conker forever, but they’ve found another way to stall: Forsaken 64 will be added to the lineup tomorrow, September 4.
So for all who missed it in the late 90s, what’s this about? First off, ignore the crying woman on the box because that’s just marketing and has nothing to do with the game. Forsaken, which was also released on the Playstation, is a first-person shooter where you’re piloting a flying bike through the tunnels of a ruined Earth, taking whatever you can loot. Along the way you’ll be fighting robotic enemies and gangs of rival bounty hunters. Here’s the full story:
You are a ruthless mercenary, sent to the condemned remains of Earth as part of a covert operation codenamed “Forsaken.” Your mission is to infiltrate and destroy the last bastions of the mechanized terror that wiped out all life on the planet. Earth is a death trap riddled with merciless mechanoid adversaries and gangs of rival bounty hunters, and you’ll have to brave them all astride your anti-grav pioncycle to make your fortune…or meet your doom. Choose between different modes in this first-person shooter title released for the Nintendo 64™ system in 1998, and enter the fight in Single Player Mode or Multi-Player Mode. Then, select your bike. Each bike has different attributes, each biker a different attitude. Pick one that suits your style, then dive into your mission. The availability of weapons, enemies, and powerups changes depending on the level you play, so stay sharp!
The arrival of Forsaken means that leak a few months back about NSO’s future lineup was pretty much correct. It not only predicted Forsaken, but Donkey Kong 64, Smash Bros., Glover and Rayman 2. Why wouldn’t they capitalize on Bananza-induced DK fever by making Donkey Kong 64 available first? Dunno. You’re getting Forsaken…and for now, DK 64 is getting forsaken.
