New Futurama Game Coming, But Don’t Get Too Excited
Fox Digital Entertainment and a German studio named “Wooga” have announced a new Futurama video game is in development…..but it’s for phones.
Wooga describes the game on their website: “The game, titled FUTURAMA: Game of Drones, takes players on a journey with the Planet Express crew as they fight a desperately imbalanced trade war against longtime shipping rival MomCo. While delivering dangerous cargo to hazardous locations under ill-advised circumstances, players connect groups of delivery drones to solve an array of fiendish puzzles as they venture into iconic environments from the FUTURAMA universe.”
The studio also mentions an original storyline written by Dave Grossman (who wrote for such games as Secret of Monkey Island and Fables: The Wolf Among Us), and that series writer Patrick M. Verrone would be contributing. But since it’s a phone game (and most likely free to start), don’t expect anything grander than The Simpsons: Tapped Out or Family Guy: The Quest For Stuff. You might get an amusing introductory cinema scene, but after that it’s all gimmicks and begging for your money.
Those who were hoping for a deeper, more game-like Futurama experience can seek out the 2003 Playstation 2 Futurama game. Though it’s not great, it will probably be more satisfying than this.
