The news just broke that Natalie Portman has been captured by terrorists and is currently strapped to a megaton bomb, which will be shot through the sky and detonated over Cleveland unless they are given ten million dollars. …Actually, Annihilation is the name of an action horror movie that Portman is starring in. The big trailer went live today….
Portman’s character, nameless in the trailer, is a biologist whose husband is sent to investigate some kind of bizarre phenomenon scientists have named “The Shimmer.” He comes back from The Shimmer comatose and clinging to life, and Natalie is determined to enter the area where The Shimmer is active and come back with the knowledge to save her husband. However, she barely knows what the phenomenon is or why it’s happening….or who the creatures are inside it. And now she’s stuck in the middle.
In addition to Portman, Annihilation also stars Tessa Thompson, Oscar Isaac and Gina Rodriguez, and was directed by Alex Garland, who brought us Ex Machina. Watch out for Annihilation February 23.
