Most video games have you pursuing a singular goal, whether it’s a princess, a Power Pellet or an enchanted sword. But imagine there’s a game where you know for a fact the protagonist isn’t going to find what he’s after until about ten seconds before he’s dead. We speak of Gollum.
The lisping man-monster made famous by Tolkien’s novels and Jackson’s movies is getting his own game. It’s mainly an action adventure through Middle Earth, but as far as motivation is concerned, Gollum cares about one thing and one thing only — his preciousssssss. With a serious magic addiction that’s corrupted him to his core, he’ll do anything to get his hands on the One Ring, and now you can help him almost reach his goal before he plummets into lava.
This time, though, since you’re the one deciding what Gollum does, you also decide whether he recovers the bit of humanity he has left or if his dark side completely takes over. Will you take the traditional route or will you break canon and make him a nicer guy? It’s up to you.
Today NACON and Daedalic Entertainment announced they’ve entered a deal to publish Lord of the Rings: Gollum. They will be the ones publishing the game when it comes out next year for Nintendo Switch, PC and “Playstation and XBox consoles,” which may mean they haven’t decided if the next-gen systems will get the game yet. Either way, you should be able to obtain the precioussssss in 2022.
