Mortal Kombat X to Feature Faction Wars Gameplay
NetherRealm Studios released a behind the scenes video for Mortal Kombat X that gave a look at various aspects, gameplay modes and features for the game. The new featurette is available in the player below. The video emphasized a great deal of the online gameplay features and attributes for the highly anticipated sequel.
One of the interesting new features described in the video was called “Faction War.” Players will be able to pick from a number of factions for online play, including: the Black Dragon; the Lin Kuei; the Brotherhood of Shadow; Special Forces; and the White Lotus. With Faction Wars, players will have to complete specific game-based challenges to assist their personal faction. Every week a new war is started, and at the end of the week, a winner will be declared based on that player’s cumulative points. Players will be able to rank up within their personal faction and unlock custom rewards. The rewards were not detailed in the video, but the possibilities certainly sound interesting. In addition, there will be Faction invasions that will last for 24 hours, where a faction might be invaded by the forces of the NetherRealm.
Other gameplay modes detailed in the video include King of the Hill, Survivor Mode, Test Your Luck, Story and Test Your Might to name a few. Per the video, the Living Towers in Mortal Kombat X will be dynamic, and the developers will be switching them “on the hour.”
Few details were revealed for the new Story Mode other than what is already known so far. Specifically, the game taking place 25 years after Mortal Kombat 9 and featuring a new generation of characters. There was a quick look at the cutscenes, but there was nothing too substantial other than a shot of an army of marching soldiers.
Mortal Kombat X is scheduled for an April 14 release. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
