Monster Hunter is one of Capcom’s most successful modern-day series, and since monsters have been a common element of tabletop games since they were first invented, someone figured “why not marry the two.” A board game version of Monster Hunter World was introduced from Steamforged Games in 2021 and the response was enthusiastic — the Kickstarter earned over three million dollars. Something that successful usually gets an inevitable follow-up, so here we are.
Steamforged has announced the arrival of Monster Hunter World Iceborne: The Board Game. Based on the world from the Iceborne video game, one to four players will be able to step into a dangerous, below-zero landscape and find ways to take down the most dangerous creatures that roam there. Players will level up by fashioning new weapons and armor from the monsters they defeat, allowing them to take on even bigger ones.
“Grab your giant weapon and plunge into strategic, card-driven combat,” reads the official description. “Use your infamous Clutch Claw to get up close and personal with the formidable beasts. And stay alert: with turf wars, you might find your monster battles interrupted by unexpected, and lethal, invaders.”
Not much is yet known about Monster Huntrer World Iceborne: The Board Game; Steamforged has revealed the box and one monster figure (Rajang), but the real details will have to wait for the launch of the crowdfunding campaign. Mark your calendars for May 18…
