In “Missing Crown Prince”, a royal physician who is the father of the future crown princess orchestrates a kidnapping. He was told that if his daughter married the crown prince, he would die young and she would become a widow. It was a curse.
But there is a way to avoid this fate. The father drugs and kidnaps the crown prince and also drugs his daughter; lays them next to each other; and offers a prayer for the couple who is to become husband and wife. When they wake up the curse will be broken.
Sounds far-fetched but one won’t know if it works if one does not try. Choi Myeong-Yoon may be the future crown princess but she is also his precious daughter. Who would want their daughter to become a widow at a young age, even if she did marry a crown prince?
The kidnapping of Crown Prince Yi Gun, however, is most inconvenient. He was following up on the suspicious death of a court maid who was assigned to the queen dowager’s palace. Her death was written off as a suicide but he was suspicious. He starts poking around.
Someone tipped him off and he unintentionally witnessed a female member of the royal family meeting secretly with a man. WHOA! The Queen Dowager is having a secret affair? He wasn’t looking for that!
The forbidden lovers heard a noise and left their secret meeting place in haste, fearing they might have been exposed. The crown prince does not see the man’s face, but he does find a set of acupuncture needles on the ground.
Perhaps the unknown man had accidentally dropped them there. The crown prince was in the process of investigating when he was kidnapped. Talk about bad timing!!
This K-drama series is a spin-off of “Bossam: Steal the Fate”, another Viki Original which was released in 2021.
My personal rating is the same as the Viki viewers.
(It’s surprising to find such a high rating on IMDb, and I usually never agree with their ratings.)
“Missing Crown Prince” has the familiar K-drama tropes for historical period dramas. Palace intrigue and corruption, mysterious deaths, people who are cursed and need a special talisman to free them from the curse, etc. But it’s still very entertaining.
Also, it was good to see that Hong Ye-Ji was given another lead role in a historical period Korean drama. She gave an excellent performance in “Love Song for Illusion”, another 2024 Viki Original Series; and did not disappoint this time either.
