Metal Gear Online to Receive New DLC in March
Konami Digital Entertainment officially announced today that there will be a new DLC campaign for Metal Gear Online, the dedicated multiplayer component for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, next month. The new DLC is called “Cloaked in Silence” and will add new maps, a new character and additional content to the multi-player experience for the game. Here’s a breakdown of the three new maps that will be coming through the DLC:
- Coral Complex: A dedicated Motherbase environment, allowing players to access tall towers, use storage containers and other internal areas as cover for tactical advantage. Coral Complex mixes open areas and a myriad of hiding opportunities.
- Rust Palace: Set within Afghanistan, the Rust Palace is a large multi-level building. The skeletal nature of the decrepit ruin means that cover is scarce, and the internal areas are rich in dusty rooms and high-up sniping positions.
- Azure Mountain: An outdoor plain under Africa’s baking sky. A small cluster of buildings offers scant cover, with only derelict walls and occasional scrubland surrounding the massive rock known locally as the Cradle of Spirits.
In addition, Cloaked in Silence will finally allow players to utilize Quiet as a playable character for the multiplayer campaign. Quiet is a sniper who can take out distant targets with exceptional accuracy. Her movement in the game is very fast and allows for unique jumping abilities over high steps where a player would usually require a ladder. In addition, Quiet will have a temporary cloak ability that will make her more inconspicuous while sprinting and activate a boost in her speed.
Also new to the DLC are the Appeal Action features. These trigger a new character pose called Appeal Action. On top of that, players will be able to preset up to five different slots per character with additional Appeal Action packs available for purchase the in-game store.
Konami also confirmed a free update to Metal Gear Online. The free update will feature the new competitive mission, dubbed Sabotage. In this mission, attackers must destroy or fulton the enemy missile before the round expires. In order to access the missile, attackers have to hack into the terminals to deactivate the Electromagnetic (EM) Barrier that is protecting it. After that, defenders have to reactivate the EM Barrier or protect the Missile.
The Cloaked in Silence DLC is set to launch in March 2016 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. The full Cloaked in Silence DLC pack will be priced at $3.99, which includes the three new maps and Quiet as a playable character. The individual Appeal packs will be priced at $1.99 each.
