Marvel vs. Capcom 4 Rumors Heat Up

Some persistent rumors recently began to heat up over the weekend that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is in the works and the new fighting game would be revealed as soon as PlayStation Experience 2016 later this week. However, those rumors first surfaced on the NeoGAF forums. Now, another report persisting that the rumors are true has surfaced on Polygon.

Going by the latest report, the new crossover fighting game is real, and it’s being developed for a console release for next year. The game has still not yet been officially announced. But, the latest rumors and reports tend to imply that the game is real and will materialize. Capcom would allegedly announce the game later this week at Sony’s PlayStation Experience, where a Capcom Cup Street Fighter V tournament is also being held.

The last installment of the series was Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, which was released in 2011. A more expansive version was re-released as Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 later in the same year. The report implied that the new game would strongly draw from the Marvel Cinematic Universe popularized by the characters that Marvel Studios still has control over. So, that basically means no X-Men or Fantastic Four characters. That would be disappointing considering characters such as Wolverine and Magneto are longtime favorites for the franchise. However, that particular part of the report hasn’t been confirmed either. It would be hard to imagine that characters such as Wolverine or Deadpool would shoved out of the game, since they are massively popular.

The 2016 PlayStation Experience is set for December 3-4 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. Ultimately, if the rumors are true or not remain to be seen.
