The graphic adventure game Life Is Strange is set to be adapted into a live-action digital series. The project will be a collaboration between publisher Square Enix, Legendary Digital Studios, and production company DJ2 Entertainment, according to a press release from all three companies. Life Is Strange was chosen because it “lends itself perfectly to live-action imaginings.”
“We’re proud and excited to be working alongside Legendary to realise a new version of Arcadia Bay and Blackwell Academy complete with our rich cast of realistic, believable characters and memorable events,” said Jon Brooke, vice president for brand and European marketing at Square Enix.
While no writers, cast or crew have so far been signed onto the series, it would appear to be in good hands with the two studios who are working on adapting the game. Legendary Digital Studios have already worked on a collection of Dead Rising films while DJ2 Entertainment are also helping Sony Pictures to produce a Sonic the hedgehog movie.
Life Is Strange is an episodic adventure game in much the same style as Telltale’s popular Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us series. It was created by Dontnod Entertainment and sees players taking on the role of a photography student called Maxine Caulfield as they attempt to find her friend with the help of classmate Chloe Price. The central mechanic in the game is the ability of the protagonist to rewind time and change future events.
